says that nearly two-thirds of US adults are overweight.  One-third of adults are obese.  Fifteen percent of our children are overweight.  An estimated $117 billion is spent yearly on costs relating to obesity.

How can this be?  In a nation where everyone has a chance to fulfill their dreams, why are we getting bigger and bigger? Why can't we just stop eating - or eat the things that are right for us?

Young children tend to eat just the right amount of food for them. When they get full, they push the bottle away, or the begin playing with their food.  What happens as we get older?  

We get limiting beliefs.

That's right.  Limiting beliefs are a big cause of your being overweight.  And many times, we have limiting beliefs about food and being fat that are actually in conflict with each other.  The interesting thing is most of the time, we don't know we're operating from these beliefs.  They are buried so deep in our minds that we can't see them.  Where do these beliefs come from?  Everywhere...have you ever heard any of these statements?

 

Clean your plate.

Children are starving in China (or other countries).

Don't eat that, you'll get fat.

You're eating like a pig.

Eat your spinach, it makes you strong.

You deserve a treat - how about some ice cream?

Fat people are lazy.

Skinny people are weak.

Fat & happy.

Mean & lean.

 

The list goes on and on. And then there's the media...

 

Think about fast-food commercials.  Do they ever show fat people eating Big Macs? Advertising food is a huge part of the American culture.  And the commercials make it look so great!  Coke - it's the real thing; have a break - have a kit kat; Nestle, good food, good life; Pringles - once you pop, the fun won't stop.  There are so many more, it's crazy.  Some of these messages eventually find their way into your subconscious mind, becoming part of your programming.  You operate every day based on the programming in your inner mind - what does your programming consist of?
